Product Description
Description:
Xylazine is an excellent and safe sedative and analgesic. Xylazine is a sedative with muscle relaxant and analgesic properties, with action on the autonomic and central nervous system. The analgesia and sedation produced by xylazine are not dose dependent, lasting only about 20 minutes even with high doses. However, there is variation in the degree and location of analgesia among animal species. After intramuscular injection, its action is optimal after about 5 - 15 minutes, after intravenous injection after about 5 minutes.
Indications:
All cases where sedation is needed, e.g. during transport, parturition, hoof treatment, small operations (e.g. dehorning), and as a pre-anaesthetic for larger operations (caesarian section).
Contra-indications: Administration during gestation or to animals with pulmonary and/or cardiac diseases.
Administration to animals with pyometra, since these animals are often hypersensitive to xylazine preparations.
Side-effects: Decreased heart and respiratory rate. Hypersalivation and vomiting.
Precaution: Animals should be handled carefully and kept as quiet as possible during treatment. Special attention should be given to cattle during operations in side and back position; the head and neck must be kept lower to prevent aspiration of saliva and stomach liquids.
